MY STORY

At 24 weeks pregnant, a large tumor on my liver was discovered during an ultrasound. After delivering a healthy baby boy (hi Holden!), I underwent surgery to remove the tumor and was conclusively diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). Since then, there have been countless more surgeries, scans, procedures, treatments, and radiation. My fight is far from over, but I have the best family by my side and am taking things one day at a time.

MY JOURNEY

December 2023

Followup scans on December 6th showed no signs of progression! This is the first “clear scan” Grace has received since June 2022. She is actively working to prevent recurrence by instituting various physical and nutritional therapies. Close monitoring is still in effect, so she will re-scan in 3 months.
October 2023

Two weeks of targeted radiation.
September 2023

Moms with Cancer becomes a registered 501(c)(3) corporation!
July 2023

Two surgical procedures in one week: a liver ablation, and resection of the lung nodule. Recovering from lung surgery is tough, but these procedures were much easier than the full abdominal surgeries.
May 2023

Liver transplant lined up. Packed up and flew to San Antonio. Scans revealed the lung nodule had grown, so transplant was taken off the table. Back to MD Anderson.
March 2023

Follow-up scans showed a nodule on the lung that required close monitoring. Began pursuing living donor liver transplant options.
November 2022

Complications from treatments required a shift in medications. 3 months of IV treatments.
October 2022

Ablation procedure on the liver, and started IV treatments.
OCTOBER 2022

Hospitalization due to complications from immunotherapy. Severe pain and neuropathy required weeks of high dose steroids.
September 2022

Scans showed recurrence.
June 2022

Follow-up scans were CLEAR!
March 2022

2nd full abdominal resection surgery to remove the remaining cancer. This surgery went much smoother.
February 2022

Grace transferred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
January 2022

Follow-up scans showed signs of recurrence.
November 2021

Pathology from the mass that was removed during surgery came back. Positive for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC).
October 2021

Surgery to resect the tumor. Scheduled as a laparoscopic procedure, but complications resulted in a 13-hour, full abdominal surgery.
September 2021

Early delivery of a HEALTHY baby boy!
Grace was given 7 weeks to "recover" before surgery was scheduled to resect the mass.
June 2021

Large mass found on liver in third trimester of pregnancy. Due to pregnancy, most conclusive tests were not available, so malignancy was unknown.
